[Update 10/11 4:25pm: fixed broken email address - Wm.]

  • 9/30 4:42pm   To DL on Essex street. Verizon likely has a problem at their home office - they can replace a card that controls the service in our area but won't because I am the only complaint and it is costly for them. They will do it if they know that others are experiencing the same issue. I know someone on King who has had the problem as well. My problem is intermittent with some days being worse than others. Audio drop outs, even the split second ones, are annoying, and they should fix the problem. I told them I cannot be the only one. They said I am, but apparently I am not. Can I pass on your information to them? And can you let me know who else is having the problem. We are all serviced by the same line coming from there main station. We have had Verizon for over 2 years and this started in January. Thanks!
    - EF

  • 9/30 4:41pm   If anyone else is experiencing audio dropouts with Verizon Fios, please email me at ellens126@verizon.net. Verizon thinks I am the only person experiencing this issue, but a call from someone on King Street several weeks ago and now a post on 9/20 from someone on Essex tells me that this is, in fact, an equipment issue at their main office which we have long believed to be true. It will get fixed if they know that other people are experiencing the problem. Yes, the problem is intermittent, but it can be quite annoying. We pay a lot of money for Fios and should not have to experience less than optimal service. Verizon has been inside my house at least 7 times and want to come out again next week. They have replaced everything on the inside, but They do not want to do an expensive repair on their system for what they believe to be one person's problem. It obviously is more widespread than they believe. Thanks.

  • 9/20 12:29pm   Reply to post from EF on 9/10 at 8:20 pm:
I live on Essex St. and experience the intermittent Verizon FIOS dropouts for a second or two. I know of other folks that experience it as well. Have never complained to Verizon as it happens infrequently and I suspect a complaint would be a waste of time. My HDMI cables and connections are rock solid; no dropouts on any other sources (PS4, DVD etc.). I believe the issue is Verizon's equipment, cabling or distribution upstream but I could not prove that.

  • 9/20 12:28pm   EF - I don't have Verizon, I have Comcast, but had a similar problem to yours. We finally traced it to use of our Waterpik! It is the only appliance in the house that impacts the television/DVR while it is in use-and ONLY on high-def network stations - Channels 4, 5 and 7. No one I have talked to at Comcast believes that this could happen, but it does-consistently. I would check and see if there any appliances running in your house when these disruptions occur.
    Good luck.

  • 9/10 8:28pm   Hi Norfolk Community,
My name is Eliza S. and I am a Junior at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA. I am a Senior Girl Scout in troop 73616 based out of Norfolk, MA. I have been in the same Girl Scout troop since kindergarten. I have made life-long friends and gained so much wisdom from being involved in scouting. I am currently in the process of working towards receiving my Gold Award through the Girl Scouts of Eastern MA. The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA, earned by Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn the Gold Award. (Popularly known as the Girl Scout Equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award!) My project, ``Day On'' was just approved under expansion with a few changes by the interview team, and I was hoping to share my project idea with you!
With my project, ``Day On", my objective is to help my community in every way possible. The ``Day On'' will occur on MLK Day, January 18th, 2016. (I am also planning on adding 2 more service days into the equation once I find out how much volunteer work is in demand from the town.) MLK Day is a day OFF from school at King Philip Regional High School, and all Norfolk Public Schools. Many students do not reflect on MLK Day being nationally titled a ``Day of Service". The majority of students take MLK day as a day to sleep in, and waste their day away when they could be putting their time to good use - and making a difference! I believe that with the ``Day On'' Project, students will be motivated to get out of bed and work to benefit their community. Students will learn to make sacrifices for others, (by sacrificing a day off from school!) to perform volunteer work in their community. The project will involve developing a community service needs list for the communities represented by the King Philip Regional High School and coordinating a schedule for students at the school completing the community service activities on their days off from school.
I am currently in the process of developing this community service needs list for the Norfolk Community. I'm looking for input from members of our community. Can you think a project for "Day On" that would benefit Norfolk? If so, I'd love to hear from you!
If you have any ideas, please feel free to PM me or email me at eliza1234@gmail.com. I would greatly appreciate it! I hope everybody had a great labor day weekend! I look forward to hearing from you.
    Sincerely,
    - ES

  • 9/10 8:20pm   Is anyone out there who has Verizon service experiencing audio dropouts and/or pixelation while viewing live TV or watching DVR recordings? We were told there was nothing wrong with our service back in January and have been dealing with the issues since then. We replaced The TV, swapped around 3 HDMI cables since they told us it was probably a bad HDMI cable--we highly doubt we could have 3 brand new bad ones), went to component cable where the problem still occurred, switched around the main DVR box (problem still happened in another location), etc. Verizon replaced all of their equipment but have yet to check the line coming to the house despite us asking them to do that with every service call. This is an intermittent problem and the likelihood of it occurring while they are testing a line for five minutes during a service call is slim to none. We cannot be the only house experiencing this.

  • 9/2 11:17pm   Regarding the 1:09 post today - Aug 31 about the low water level in the lake.
This has been checked out and the boards are all in place in the dam and no one has monkeyed with them. If you check the inflow of the Stop River from the Fisher Bridge on Main St You will find it is very low. The low level of the lake would therefore appear to be the result of our current drought.

  • 9/2 11:11pm   The Un-Common Theatre Company announces September Auditions for "Shrek The Musical"
The Un-Common Theatre Company is thrilled to announce auditions for their Fall Production of "Shrek The Musical" on Sunday, September 20th, 2015, from 1:00 to 4:00pm. The production will feature a cast of 2nd through 12th graders and will be performed at the Orpheum Theater in Foxboro, MA, December 4-6, 2015.
This production reunites the creative team of Director and Choreographer Michael Hammond (Holbrook, MA) and Music Director Paula Bishop (Foxboro, MA), who most recently collaborated on "Seussical", "The Wizard of Oz" and "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka".
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.
Schedule your audition today and be part of bringing Shrek to life on stage. Join us as we share this magical story and its many unforgettable characters and songs including "What's up Duloc?", "Morning Person" and "Freak Flag".
Auditions will be held at the Orpheum Theater in Foxboro, MA for students in Grades 2 through 12 on Sunday, September 20th, from 1:00 to 4:00pm BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Callbacks will be held at 6:00pm. All roles are available. To make an appointment, email uncommontheatre@verizon.net. Please provide your name, grade, age, e-mail address and telephone number. A representative from The Un-Common Theatre Company will contact you with an appointment time and more information.
For those who are out of practice or would like to improve their auditioning skills, Un-Common is also offering an Audition Workshop, taught by the Shrek creative team of Michael Hammond and Paula Bishop. This Audition Workshop is being held on Thursday, September 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Orpheum Theatre Foxboro, MA. Please email uncommontheatre@verizon.net to register.

  • 8/31 12:45am   My Little Preschool, an in-home, state certified preschool located in a quiet Norfolk cul-de-sac, invites parents to register their children ages 2.5-4 years old for the upcoming school year. This quality program provides an age-appropriate learning environment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9AM to 1PM. Parents have the option of choosing how often and which days they would like their child to attend. Space is limited. On a typical day, children may engage in open-ended play using a diverse set of materials, including paints, sand and water table, writing and coloring supplies, and imaginative play toys. Children enjoy story time together, and may also explore books throughout the day from the collection in the reading corner. The daily activities may include: art, cooking, science, songs, stories, and music. Weather permitting, the children play outside every day in the fenced-in play yard for fresh air and to exercise their gross motor skills.
My Little Preschool practices a solely positive approach to children, encouraging them to learn to socialize through play.
In addition to a morning snack, My Little Preschool offers children a nutritious lunch. The school follows a peanut/nut free diet. Parents may provide food for children with very specific dietary needs.
My Little Preschool welcomes children who are not yet toilet trained. Director Laurie Hayes, also known as ``Ms. Laurie,'' worked in all facets of childcare before founding My Little Preschool in 2008. She is pleased to offer the community a small class size and low teacher-to-student ratio in a play-rich environment that's ideally suited to a child's first school experience.

Also if we pay for sidewalks on main roads then I want every jackass jogging or waddling in the road beside them "'cause it's smoother" to get a giant ticket! (Cape Cod Estates, I'm callin you out)

  • 8/17 11:10pm   Hi. I recently used Old Time Tree Cutter out of Wrentham and want to spread the word. I worked with Dave Brown, the owner, directly and he was probably one of the most helpful and professional people I have met in the trades. He was very knowledgeable, extremely punctual and left my yard much better than he found it. He removed 2 trees and ground down the stumps and even in extremely rocky soil, he took those stumps down to nothing. He stayed true to the quote despite the "extra" rocks in the ground. I will definitely call Dave again and I will recommend him as well.

  • 8/98 10:40pm   In response to MJS' and RD's posts re: traffic speeds and dangerous drivers here in Norfolk!!!
Dear MJS, RD and anyone else who has had it with the unlawful, dangerous, irresponsible and insane driving that is going on in Norfolk these days!
WHO WILL STAND UP WITH ME? LET'S SLOW THE CARS DOWN & OUTLAW CELLPHONE USE WHILE DRIVING! OR ELSE!
This is not an idle rant. This is an appeal to the residents, law makers, police and managers of our town. Please take this seriously. It IS serious.
Cell phone use while driving is insane. Speeding is insane. Driving to endanger is against the law!
Who wants to help me do something about it? In Boston I took on the City and got Mayor Menino to come to our home for dinner, and declare that yes, we needed a sidewalk! It took me 5 years to finally make it happen, but there is now a wonderful sidewalk on Allandale Street in Jamaica Plain & West Roxbury (Road in Brookline). I don't have the stomach to fight for 5 years here in Norfolk. I won't even stay that long if we cannot slow down the dangerous and basically really nasty out of control drivers who careen around the curve at Diamond Street, or barrel down the hill before Marshall Street and then keep their feet on the gas past our home!!! They more often than not refuse to move over if you are walking, running or biking along the street... And, the answer is NOT to put "Round UP" on our streets' shoulders to kill poison ivy so we pedestrians have a place to jump into for safety. What??? It is just plain crazy talk!
A few months ago, a homecare provider for one of our neighbors ran me off the road as she sped around the Diamond Street/North Street curve... she literally RAN me off the road. And yes, into poison ivy!!! She was NOT in control of her vehicle. The next time I saw her in my neighbor's driveway, she did not even apologize! I have had it! And she knew exactly who I was.
As far as the poison ivy that has taken over way too much of our road sides and how the town and neighbors are dealing with it, our dear dog Mr. Dudley (see his Facebook page - ``Mr. Dudley'' on FB... he's the little white dog! OR if you love dogs, go to his "GiveForward Mr. Dudley" site online and read about our struggle!!) is now dying from Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, AKA high grade T-Cell Lymphoma, which he got a few years ago. His oncologists are in agreement. With all the dogs they are treating with this horrific and incurable cancer, they are now attributing it to Round Up use in general! And Round Up use on the shoulders around town does NOT slow down drivers, it just kills poison ivy and sickens anything else in its path, including pedestrians and animals! ...and most likely fish and other aquatic life. We have been fighting Mr. Dudley's cancer with him at much cost and heart ache to us and sadly, to him. FACT: Round Up, most notably one of its ingredients, Glyphosate, has now been directly connected with NHL as well as autism in children who play in areas treated with it!!! I hate it... to pay thousands of dollars in property taxes to live here and NOT be able to walk down my own street for fear of my life is ridiculous!!!! And RD, you are correct.. these dangerous drivers do force us off the roads, all over town where there are no sidewalks! (And every other town!) There's healthier ways to get rid of poison ivy and there are much safer ways to drive! ...with respect for life and the peace of mind of your fellow neighbors and townspeople! If you are in such a hurry, leave earlier! And feel some shame. To those of you who do not drive responsibly, you are ruining the quality of life of your fellow townspeople and endangering the lives of people who want to take advantage of the beauty that is our town. Get out and go for a walk... see for yourselves if you doubt me! It only takes one speeding car to ruin a nice walk or end a life!
So, who has the stomach for fighting to slow down the drivers, change the posted traffic speed limits, hopefully get more sidewalks, make it a real crime to drive while using a cell phone or texting, and force the powers that be in this town to ask for as well as support the police in providing more aggressive police safety coverage on our roads? This is about taking back our streets. If people cannot/will not drive responsibly then they should NOT BE DRIVING! We saw a deer get killed right IN FRONT of our home!!!! It's a straight away there... the driver kept going! They did not even stop. It could be your child that gets hit next! Who is going to stand up with me? PRR
    RE: These 2 previous posts.
(8/3 8:42pm To add to the bicycle rider's tale of woe: even in a car you're not immune to intimidation from drivers who think the road is theirs alone, and the speed limit is a suggestion, which does not apply to them at all. I was tailgated, headlamp-flashed, and horn-beeped while doing 35 mph in a 30 mph zone, near the elementary school. When I tell that story to other Norfolk residents, they relate their local aggressive tailgater experiences. People, please! Courtesy and neighborliness, not to mention safety, are more important than your lateness. Slower careful driving is a state of mind, and once you practice it consistently, you will find it so much less stressful. You will also be adding to the peacefulness of this town, rather than detracting from it. MJS
7/27 11:33pm Norfolk is a wonderful town full of friendly neighbors and quite streets making it a perfect place to go for a run or enjoy a bike ride. Usually there is hardly any traffic and most cars when they pass a runner or biker provide ample room. However lately I have had more than 1 close call where I have been pushed off the road because a driver does not want to share the road. If you are driving please move over, way over for others on the road. There is no law that says you cannot cross the yellow line provided you do it safely. You may think giving a runner 18 inches of room is plenty but if you are running and 3 ton SUV wizzes by at 40MPH less than an elbow's length away it makes your life flash before your eyes. If the situation comes up where there is oncoming traffic just slow down let that traffic pass then give pedestrian a little extra room. You can speed back up after you pass and trust me you won't be late for your appointment that is almost certainly not important enough to force me into the patch of poison ivy on the shoulder of the road. Thanks Norfolk. RD)

A misfit at school, Carrie White (Katie Fidler, Coventry, RI) is bullied by popular kids Chris (Olivia Losiewicz, Mansfield, MA) and Billy (Joe Spirito, North Smithfield, RI) and invisible to everyone else. Her only allies are Miss Gardner (Alexa Lieberthal, Wrentham, MA), Sue (Katie Armstrong, Mansfield, MA) and Tommy (Charlie Lowiewicz, Mansfield, MA). Terrorized by her holier-than-thou mother (Madeline Canfield, Foxboro, MA) at home, Carrie discovers she possesses a powerful secret. When a prank at the high school prom goes horribly wrong, they all find out just how scary a secret can be...
Based on the acclaimed horror novel by Stephen King, and featuring a book by Lawrence D.Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose), Carrie the musical has been completely reworked since its legendary 1988 Broadway production to create a fully re-imagined adaptation of this gripping tale of torment and revenge.
"CARRIE the musical" continues Un-Common's Young Adult Company's mission to present unique opportunities for cast and audiences alike to experience provocative, cutting-edge theatre in our community. Past shows have included the Moss Hart Award winning "Rent - School Edition", the national non-equity premieres of "American Idiot" and "Spring Awakening" as well as edgy dramas such as "Assassins", "Tommy", "Bat Boy" and "Anyone Can Whistle".
Un-Common's production brings together the talents of Un-Common veteran Director Christa Crewdson (Arlington, MA) and Music Director Linda Barbieri (Attleboro, MA). The cast of twenty-one includes: From Franklin, MA: Casey Capobianco (Chris' Posse), Ian Simpson (Freddy/Sue's Interrogator) From Foxboro, MA: Madeline Canfield (Margaret White) From Holliston, MA: Mai Hartwich (Norma) From Mansfield, MA: Sara Alfaro (Ensemble), Katie Armstrong (Sue Snell), Maria Capece (Sue's Interrogator/ Ensemble), Patrick Driscoll (George), Charlie Losiewicz (Tommy Ross), Olivia Losiewicz (Chris Hargensen), Derek Lynch (Reverend Bliss/Ensemble), Catherine Sapovits (Ensemble) From Milton, MA: Jenna Corcoran (Frieda) From Norton, MA: Amanda Flicop (Mrs. Stephens), Abby Sitte (Helen) From Taunton, MA: Olivia Fonseca (Chris' Posse) From Weymouth, MA: Nate Pacheco (Stokes) From Wrentham, MA: Alexa Lieberthal (Miss Gardner), Maddy Teixeira (Ensemble) From Coventry, RI: Katie Fidler (Carrie White) From North Smithfield, RI: Joe Spirito (Billy Nolan)
Because of the mature subject matter, this show is recommended for ages 15 and above.
The Un-Common Theatre Co. is currently in its 35th season of providing a creative place for children, adolescents and adults to develop life skills through exposure to the professional theatrical experience. For more information about the Un-Common Theatre Co. and "CARRIE the musical" please visit their website at www.uncommontheatre.org. • 7/12 2:20pm   Norfolk preschool has limited openings, offers extended hours, flexible days for ages 2.5 to 4
Norfolk -- My Little Preschool, an in-home, state certified preschool located in a quiet Norfolk cul-de-sac, invites parents to register their children ages 2.5-4 years old for the upcoming school year.
In addition to a morning snack,
My Little Preschool offers children a nutritious lunch.

  • 7/12 2:09pm   I'm just setting out to remodel a kitchen and bath and am not sure where to start. I'm sort of new to the area and am spoiled by having had friends in the business back where I used to live. Can someone recommend someone who has helped them design and remodel? I have a pretty clear idea of what I want to do but definitely need guidance!

The Meet Me In Margaritaville Bash has quickly become one of Wrentham, MA must-go-to events of the summer. The event has been the major contributor to The Cure Starts Now succeeding in funding over $2.8 million in pediatric cancer research. You may be shocked to discover that only 4% of all federal cancer research funding is designated for pediatric cancer.

  • 7/12 2:06pm   The businesses at 242 Dedham Street, Route 1A, have opened. The Dunkin Donuts is currently open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and has a drive through. The Subway Restaurant, Gulf Gas Station and convenience store are also open. This plaza is in a soft open stage, meaning procedural kinks are still being worked out, but they are thirsty for customers, and are they are hiring.

Her only allies are Miss Gardner (Alexa Lieberthal, Wrentham, MA), Sue (Katie Armstrong, Mansfield, MA) and Tommy (Charlie Lowiewicz, Mansfield, MA). • 7/6 9:24pm   BF(2) just a quick note on your experience: At the time you complained, I would have offered you some credit for the work already done, and a price to replace the micro-perforated sheet metal on your truck bed. Micro-perforation is not always easily detected. It's inadvisable to patch it, since it would only break out next to the patch. It's quite expensive to replace a whole bed side, and it would have been understandable if you declined (I don't remember) based on the value of the truck, and/or your finances. There really is no other option. I'm truly sorry you had a bad experience, and I invite you to call me and discuss this with me further.
