And Mr. Webmaster, why do you not post some of my postings? Why do you pick and choose? Freedom of Speech, my friend.- BH
[The most basic reason to continue a topic is because it still holds interest. Not everyone will be ready to move on at the same time. Some people only check the page every few days or so, and may only recently have read about the incident. The e-mail could have been delayed in transit, or I may have been late posting it, or perhaps some combination of the above.
I "pick and choose" to not post messages that I feel are more rude than called for. I decide based on what I'm comfortable with, what I think is reasonable to tolerate, and what I assume other residents are willing to put up with. The Norfolknet posting policy does not require respect, but asks for civility. If I feel a point should be made in a less confrontational manner, I send an e-mail and suggest that the note be re-worded. Sometimes I take the liberty to make small edits myself, enclosing the changes in [squre brackets] to show that they're not the original.
As to freedom of speech, this point is raised often enough that I'll respond on-line. Freedom of speech means that everyone is free to set up their own web page and write in it whatever the law allows. It does not mean that I am required to speak on their behalf by including all their comments in my page. It's my pleasure extending a platform from where Norfolk can voice its opinions, but one's freedom of speech does not trump another's freedom of non-speech. - Wm.]
