• 4/12 11:10am Hey, it worked! At 6:03 yesterday morning, our DSL line was bumped in speed to 3000/768 megabits per second. This puts Verizon close to what Comcast is delivering in terms of of download speed, and double the upload speed.

I've also found a way to make the Westell 327w DSL modem keep bulk (data) transfers from interfering with interactive use (ie, my telnet sessions). Under Configuration / Advance WAN / QOS, I decreased the "Peak Info Rate" of the default, Best Effort queue (queue 0) from 100 to 85 (percent). Once the modem ``notices'' the bulk transfer, my ping times stay mostly below 250ms and interactive use is quite snappy, even during heavy uploads (and ever under the old, 1790/448 speeds). (Be sure to click the "QOS Enable" and "QOS Filter Enable" boxes to make the filter settings take effect. I don't know what "Turbo TCP" does, but it seems to slightly improve the downloads of eBay listings.)
