11/29 6:16pm Hey Norfolk Friends,As you may or may not know, Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) is planning to build a power plant here in Walpole. It will sit just off 1A in the Industrial Park. The plant will burn both natural gas and diesel oil. This poses many concerns for Walpole, but one common concern that all surrounding towns share is the pollution of the air. The two 259 foot smoke stack will put forth particulate matter that includes carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitric oxide. This company operates a plant in western mass and the out put into the air is measured in tons. The particles released are particularly troublesome because they are so small (2.5 microns). These particles can penetrate into your lungs and cause a host of medical problems. Anyone with a pre-existing condition, such as asthma is especially vulnerable. The plant will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the particulate matter will fall in a 6 to 12 mile radius around the plant. Norfolk center is only 2.9 miles from the site as the crow flies. Many of you probably live closer to the plant than I do.
We are doing all we can internally, but CPV plans to petition the state for the go ahead to build and operate the plant.
I am writing to you, to ask that if you feel comfortable, please share this information with your neighbors and friends and ask them to email your State Senator and representative and let them know you do not want to breath in the pollution from this plant. All you have to do is click on the link below. Norfolk and Walpole share a state representative, Richard Ross and he was a the town forum Tuesday, so he is well acquainted with the issue.
