8/11 9:17am Update on Lucky and Momma:
Momma needs a new name :-) The leg problem is being caused by a huge abscess (between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball) on his back. This appears to be from an old wound which was visible when the fur in the area was clipped. It is definitely affecting his walking and is probably painful. He certainly has a will to live and is a very sweet bun. His nose that is torn may be a minor deterrent for some people, but we advise people to adopt based on personality and not appearance. We were able to pull some infectious material from the abscess and he was so good as if he knew that we were trying to make him feel better, but he will need surgery to lance it and then several weeks to get it totally cleaned and healed with administration of injections of antibiotics as well. It really is quite nasty. He got an injection of antibiotics today as well as dosing with Revolution for fleas (both of them got this). He also received some pain meds which he gladly took from a dropper (banana flavored---yum!).
Lucky has some minor bites aside from fleas. Both buns will be looked at more closely tomorrow and will see the vet as soon as an appointment can be made.
I posted the web address earlier if anyone is interested in helping with their care. The button says "Donate" not Paypal as I posted earlier. The Paypal button comes up once the donate button is hit. Payments can also be made via charge card. Any size donation will gladly be accepted and greatly appreciated.

I dropped the buns off today with litter boxes, hay, food, some toys, a donation and lots of well wishes. I miss having them here but know that they are getting everything they need. They looked so much better in just the couple of days they were here. They could finally relax and are seeing human kindness probably for the first time in their lives. I could only imagine what was going through their heads as they were put into carriers and we began to drive. They were probably fearing being dumped again.
When they start eating properly an their coats grow out, they will look like perfect little buns.
Thanks again for everyone' s caring and concern. Nice to know that people out there love all animals. I know that I have been e-mailed by people who have said that this incident has raised their level of awareness about rabbits, and that is a good thing.- EF
