RE: MON (RE: What Martha DID do.), MEH (RE: Comment on Big Lie), PA (Almost Scared By Martha)

Some differences between Scott Brown and Martha Coakley. And what she WILL do!

Video Proof Disputes Brown's Attempt To Run Away From Far Right Group That Supports Him

Rhetoric:

``When asked by a reporter, he said he was unfamiliar with the Tea Party movement, a grass-roots conservative effort that has protested possible tax increases and federal spending programs.'' (Boston Globe, 1/14/10)

Reality:

Just months ago, Scott Brown personally addressed a Tea Party rally in Worcester. It was an event he was so proud of that he placed photos of it on his campaign website and the video was placed on YouTube.

Below is a link to a YouTube video of Scott Brown's address at a Tea Party event in April: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHFkuui3pTA

Brown also has voted in support of increased state spending of $7.2 billion over 9 years and to increase fees on Massachusetts families and businesses by more than $300 million.

Brown On lockstep Republican Voting Record

Rhetoric

Brown: ``The allegation that I vote 96 percent of the time with Republicans is inaccurate.'' (Boston Globe, 1/14/10)

Reality

Brown has voted with the Minority Leader of the Massachusetts Senate, Richard Tisei, 546 times from 2007-present. During that same period Brown voted against the Minority Leader only 25 times. In other words, Brown has voted with the current Republican Minority Leader 96% of the time from 2007-present. (Insta-Trac/The Advance Research Group Database)

NOW, SOME THINGS THAT MARTHA COAKLEY DID DO ALREADY...

and WILL do if you vote for her this coming Tuesday, plus some endorsements and quotes from various newspapers:

1. Dedicated the past 20 years of her life to a career in public service. She began her legal career in 1979 in Boston.

2. 1987: Coakley was invited by the U.S. Justice Department to join the Boston Organized Crime Strike Force as Special Attorney

3. 1989 and 1991: Appointed Chief of the Child Abuse Prosecution Unit. She investigated and prosecuted hundreds of cases of physical and sexual abuse of children.

4. 1998: Elected Middlesex District Attorney, and remained so for 8 years. She was also named Woman of the Year by the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at Univ. of Mass. Martha was strong advocate for public safety.

5 Brought justice to crime victims and their families

6. Emphasized importance of community leaders, schools and law enforcement working together in a variety of multi-faceted prevention efforts.

7. With her leadership her office's Child Abuse Prosecution Unit served as a national model for victim-centered prosecution of crimes against children.

8. 2002: She was responsible for extending that model to sexual crimes against adults and established the office's Adult Sexual Assault Div.

9. DA Coakley oversaw the successful prosecution many high profile crimes, including the cases of several Catholic priest charged with sexually abusing children; convicting Michael McDermott of first degree murder in Wakefield; and the successful prosecution of Thomas Junta, the Reading father who brutally bean another parent at a youth hockey practice.

10. January 2002: Served for one year as President of Mass. DA Association and was at forefront of statewide public policy discussion and initiatives to improve the criminal justice system as well as overall public safety.

11. 2004: DA Coakley received the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's Pinnacle Award for Excellence in Management in Government

12. 2006: Was awarded the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Award by the Mass. Democratic Party.

13. She has been President of the Women's Bar Association of Mass., Chair of the Board of Directors of Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc., and has been honored by the Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Mass. Assoc. of School Committees, and the Victim Rights Law Center.

14. She advocates the best way to get our Nation back to work and on the right track is to tackle the economic crisis head on! By making wise as well as bold investments in health care, energy and education and by restoring fiscal accountability to government spending, she believes we can get America working again. and as our Senator, Martha will bring a broad vision of economic growth to Washington. Martha will work to ensure resources and incentives are available to attract businesses to Massachusetts and keep them here well into the future.

15. 2009: Testified in Support of Amended Version of J.R. 1231: Aimed at Combating Foreclosure Relief Scams and Against Predatory Lending

16. And don't forget, as Attorney General, Martha took on the Wall Street firms who helped cause our economic crisis. She recovered tens of millions for taxpayers and victims of Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and UBS for their deceptive activities.

17. Quote from Patriot Ledger(Quincy): "As a Senate candidate, she has displayed a sound comprehension of the major issues facing the victor in this race, whether they be health care, financial regulation, national security or education."

18. And finally, an endorsement by The MetroWest Daily News (1/10/2010): "These are dark days in Washington. The public interest is being lost in partisan battles. Big issues are being trivialized for political gain. Many in Congress prefer stalemates that fire up their parties' bases to compromises that solve persistent national problems. On January 19, Massachusetts voters have the opportunity to send someone into the heart of the Capitol's dysfunction, the U.S. Senate. They would serve the nation by sending someone who is both principled and pragmatic, who can earn the respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle, who can protect the interests of the state and push the Senate toward constructive engagement with vexing national dilemmas. In other words, we need a senator like the giant whose death last August left the hole in the Senate we must now fill, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. That person is Martha Coakley."

We've watched Coakley, as Middlesex County District Attorney and state Attorney General, grapple with human tragedy and inhuman crimes. She sees the law, and her responsibilities, not simply as a matter of enforcing a rigid code, but as tools to make families safer and communities stronger. She has a broad knowledge of public policy and a sterling record of public service.

Her main opponent, state Sen. Scott Brown, is smart, well-spoken and capable. The Wrentham Republican has legislative experience, though his influence and achievements are limited by his membership in a tiny, often irrelevant, minority of Republicans on Beacon Hill. A third candidate on the ballot, Libertarian Joseph Kennedy (no relation to the late senator), is long on ideology, short on experience.

While we disagree with Brown on many issues, our greater concerns stem from recent comments that show either a lack of understanding or a lack of seriousness about the choices the nation faces. He has said he doesn't know if climate change is a problem, showing a disinterest in the world's most pressing environmental threat. He has said he doesn't consider waterboarding to be torture, despite its definition as such in the Army Field Manual and a history of U.S. military prosecutions of waterboarding as war crimes. As an attorney who serves in the Mass. National Guard's Judge Advocate General's Corps, he should know better. His disingenuous comparison of his anti-tax rigidity to the policies of John F. Kennedy shows either a lack of understanding of economics or a willingness to put politics ahead of policy. Either way, it's hard to see him as a constructive voice in the serious discussions Congress must have about controlling the deficit.

Coakley is neither a firebrand nor a maverick. Her positions align with those of mainstream Massachusetts Democrats. What makes her the clear choice in this race are personal qualities: intelligence, integrity, diligence and compassion. She is a strong leader, a good communicator and an effective collaborator.

That's what the Senate needs, and we enthusiastically endorse MARTHA COAKLEY in the Jan. 19 special election."

Okay voters, let's face it, Martha Coakley knows the law. She respects and upholds the law. We need Martha in the US Senate because she will OBEY the law and defend our rights as citizens. She will pursue the best interests of our Nation. Martha Coakley will serve us tirelessly in Washington, DC. just as she has worked for justice and right in Massachusetts for the past 20 years. Think hard before you vote on Tuesday and remember, again, as the editor of the MetroWest Daily news so aptly put it:
"On January 19, Massachusetts voters have the opportunity to send someone into the heart of the Capitol's dysfunction, the U.S.
