Middle and High School Students to Perform

On Saturday, April 26, at Boston's Symphony Hall, the King Philip North School Eighth Grade Band and the King Philip Regional High School Symphony Band will be performing their gold medal-winning programs as part of the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association annual "Stars at Symphony" The Eighth Grade Band performs at 12 noon, and the Symphony Band at 2:30 p.m., and admission is free of charge to the public.

The Eighth Grade Band will perform (Josh Wolloff will fill this in).

The Symphony Band, making its fifth appearance at "Stars at Symphony," will perform Leonard Bernstein's Jeremiah Symphony, Movement No. 2 "Profanation," John Chance's "Variations on a Korean Folk Song," and Sammy Nestico's "The Silver Quill."

When the members of 11 middle and high school music groups from Massachusetts step onstage at Boston's Symphony Hall, they will achieve a musician's dream and the prize for long hours of practice.

"Stars at Symphony," sponsored by the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association, rewards student groups who earned a gold judges award in the Concert and Choral Festivals held early in April.

"I played basketball and my goal was to play in the Boston Garden," explained Peter Tileston, president of the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association.

"I played in a tournament in Boston Garden. I was a big Celtics fan, and as a high school athlete that was the epitome, the thing you're shooting for.

"I thought, as a music educator, what would it be for a musician? Playing in Symphony Hall was certainly the same kind of thing."

"Stars at Symphony" is held with the cooperation of the Boston Symphony Orchestra..

The groups are:

10:30 AM Gardner High School Chorus
10:50 AM Greenfield High School Concert Chorus
11:10 AM Blackstone-Millville Regional Middle School Wind Ensemble
11:30 AM McCarthy Middle School Orchestra
