Elementary School Annual Percussion Night
At 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, percussion students from the elementary schools of Plainville, Norfolk and Wrentham, King Philip Middle and High Schools will present their annual Percussion Night in the lower gymnasium of King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham.
The New England Scholastic Band Association regional silver medal winning King Philip Percussion Ensemble will present Prelude to a Dream, arranged by percussion director James Powers from original compositions by Leonard Bernstein.
The program will include the following pieces: Johnny Mercer's Autumn Leaves; Pat Metheny's Minuano; Aram Khachaturian's Sabre Dance; a traditional Civil War pieces, The Three Camps and The Downfall of Paris; Rossini's William Tell Overture (with a twist!); Terry Riley's In C; and Variation Sandwich by the Wood School Percussion Ensemble, and other original compositions from students at KP North, Freeman Centennial and other Wood School students.
The students will also present a selection of Afro-Cuban and samba pieces, including Percussion Night's traditional samba performed by a large group of people of all ages.
