King Philip Band Places at the Top

Saturday, the King Philip Marching Band placed first at a United States Scholastic Band Association competition East Cranston, taking a first in all captions, including: best visual performance, best individual music performance, best ensemble music performance, best music effect, best visual effect, best percussion and best color guard. The band, entered in Division III, had an overall score of 89.1, higher than bands in IV and V, divisions for bands with more students.

On Sunday, the Pride and the Passion were awarded the highest rating of five stars in the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association District Competition in Norwood. The band won five stars for every caption judged in the District Competition.

Local fans of the band can see the winning show, "Any Questions? Music of Leonard Bernstein" on Friday, October 24, during halftime at the KPRHS football game at Mactaz Field.

At 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 26, the public can view the show one more time at the MICCA State Championships at Bowditch Field in Framingham. The King Philip Marching Band will be vying for their 17th annual consecutive gold medal.

The band will perform at New Bedford High School on Saturday.
