Send-Off Rally for KP Varsity Guard

At 8 p.m. Thursday, the King Philip Varsity Indoor Color Guard will present their show at a Send-Off Rally in the King Philip Regional High School Gymnasium. The public is invited at no charge.

Last Saturday, the Varsity Guard took first place in the National Open Class in the New England Scholastic Band Association Finals in Dartmouth.

The group goes into the WGI competition in San Diego on April 8-12 as one of the country's top seeded indoor guards.

The Varsity will perform "Dancing in Circles," choreographed to "Mielahisvuohta," performed by Norwegian singer Mari Boine.

Also at the Dartmouth NESBA Finals competition, the King Philip Regional Junior Varsity Guard made up of mostly 8th and 9th graders came in third place in Class A2 among seven groups.  The hard-working students often competed against high school varsity guards throughout the winter.

The KP Regional Indoor Percussion ensemble also distinguished itself in the Dartmouth competition.  Competing against six other indoor percussion units in the Scholastic Open Class, KP tied for fourth place.

Using contemporary twelve-tone music, the percussion line performed a piece called "Obstacles" with unique visual performance and general effect.  Besting Blackstone-Millville and East Lyme, CT, the ensemble intrigued the audience and successfully vied for the judges approval of their abstract concepts.
