Norfolk Community League Grants $24,000 to Community Causes

The Board members of the Norfolk Community League (NCL) announce the recipients of distributions totaling $23,836. The funds were raised during winter and spring 2002 through the Valentine's Dinner Dance and Auction and the Norfolk Nearly New Consignment Sale. The amounts and recipients were:

$600 to the Norfolk Public Library for a Museum of Science Pass;

$200 to H. Olive Day First Grade for Poetry Book Supplies;

$328 to H. Olive Day Kindergarten for Storytelling Kits;

$1,008 to Freeman / Centennial Sixth Grade for Graphing Calculators;

$ 300 to Norfolk Boy Scouts for storage shed;

$300 to Norfolk Boy Scouts for flag poles and related equipment;

$200 to Norfolk Little League Association to sponsor a team;

$1300 to Freeman / Centennial for World Book CD-ROM ;

$1000 to Norfolk Cooperative Preschool for scholarship fund;

$5000 to Freeman / Centennial Library to update books;

$300 to Norfolk Public Library for children's program;

$1000 to two King Philip students for college scholarship;

$500 to a non-King Philip student for college scholarship;

$1800 to H. Olive Day to replace stolen sign and

$10,000 to Norfolk Public Schools to support science curriculum.

Norfolk Community League is an organization consisting of over 150 families that dedicates itself to enhancing the quality of life for Norfolk residents, increasing involvement in activities that better the community and to strengthen community spirit. Funds raised during the year are distributed each January and May. Over the past six years, NCL has distributed in excess of $ 100,000 to groups such as the Norfolk Library, Norfolk Fire Department, Norfolk Police Department, H. Olive Day School, Freeman-Centennial Schools, Council on Aging, college scholarships, YMCA for camp scholarships and area preschools. Area groups and causes are welcome to apply for a distribution.
