Norfolk Community League Gives Back $6,450 to Community
The Board members of the Norfolk Community League (NCL) are pleased to announce the recipients of distributions totaling $6,450. The funds were raised this past summer and fall through the annual Community Day Run/Walk, Haunted Train Ride, Holiday Photo Session, and the annual Jingle Bell Fun Run/Walk. The Haunted Train Ride was held in conjunction with the Norfolk Lions. The amounts and recipients are:
- $2,000 to the Norfolk Recreation Department for construction of a skateboard park;
- $1,700 to Stony Brook for the purchase of a digital camera; This donation was made in conjunction with the Norfolk Lions.
- $800 to the Norfolk Public Library towards the purchase of a preschool computer;
- $650 to Norfolk Together to assist Norfolk families in need;
- $500 to King Philip North for financial assistance to Norfolk students for the Washington, D.C. school trip;
- $300 to the Norfolk Public Library for their summer reading program;
- $200 to the Friends of the Norfolk Council on Aging for construction of a shuffle board court;
- $150 to Norfolk Boy Scout Troop 80 for storage closets; and
- $150 to Freeman-Centennial School to fund a storyteller on diversity.
Norfolk Community League is an organization consisting of over 175 families that dedicates itself to enhancing the quality of life for Norfolk residents, increasing involvement in activities that better the community and to strengthen community spirit. Funds raised during the year are distributed each January and May. Over the past five years, NCL has distributed in excess of $100,000 to local groups such as the Norfolk Library, Norfolk Fire Department, Norfolk Police Department, H. Olive Day School, Freeman-Centennial Schools, Council on Aging, college scholarships, Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCA for camp scholarships and area preschools.
