Norfolk Community League Distributes $22,000 to Community

The Board members of the Norfolk Community League (NCL) are pleased to announce the recipients of distributions totaling $21,882. The funds were raised this past winter and spring through the annual Valentine's Dinner Dance and Silent Auction, and the Nearly New Consignment Sale. The amounts and recipients are:

  1. $4,250 to the Norfolk Public Library to purchase books to replace outdated books in the school libraries;
  2. $2,612 to Freeman Centennial Schools to purchase student agendas;
  3. $2,530 to H. Olive Day Physical Education Department to purchase a traversing climbing wall;
  4. $2,000 to Norfolk Fire Department for fire prevention and safety programs at the schools;
  5. $1,500 to Norfolk Police Department D.A.R.E. program to fund summer camp;
  6. $1,000 to First Friends Preschool for scholarships;
  7. $1,000 to Norfolk Cooperative Preschool for scholarships;
  8. $1,000 to Hockomock YMCA for camp scholarship for Norfolk residents;
  9. $1,500 for college scholarships for Norfolk seniors ( 2 King Philip and 1 non-King Philip)
  10. $760 to the Norfolk Highway Department to install school zone signs on Boardman Street at the Freeman Centennial School;
  11. $750 to the Norfolk Recreation Department for additional equipment at the skateboard park;
  12. $700 to H. Olive Day School to partially fund Author's Day;
  13. $600 to the Norfolk Public Library for the Museum of Science pass;
  14. $500 to Norfolk Public Schools for emergency medical training of staff;
  15. $500 to American Legion Post #335 ;
  16. $500 to the Norfolk Highway Department towards lighting the flag pole at the Pondville Cemetery; and
  17. $180 to H. Olive Day Kindergarten Teachers for purchase of writing materials.

Norfolk Community League is an organization consisting of over 175 families that dedicates itself to enhancing the quality of life for Norfolk residents, increasing involvement in activities that better the community and to strengthen community spirit. Funds raised during the year are distributed each January and May. Over the past five years, NCL has distributed in excess of $130,000 to local groups such as the Norfolk Library, Norfolk Fire Department, Norfolk Police Department, H. Olive Day School, Freeman-Centennial Schools, Council on Aging, college scholarships, Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCA for camp scholarships and area preschools.
