NCL in Midst of Annual Membership Drive

Norfolk Community League (NCL) is in the midst of its annual membership drive. All Norfolk residents are invited to join the local civic organization. The mission of this 30-year-old organization is "To enhance the quality of life for Norfolk residents, to increase involvement in activities that better our community, and to strengthen community spirit. Annual membership dues are $25 per family, $3 for seniors. This fee supports the many activities NCL holds and includes a subscription to the monthly newsletter. Currently NCL membership has over 150 active families.

There are several activities that NCL hosts throughout the year including Santa Breakfast, Easter Bunny Breakfast, Dinner Dance and Silent Auction, Nearly New Consignment Sale and Annual Run/Walk. All of the money that is raised during these events is distributed to various organizations twice a year. In the past 6 years, NCL has donated over $120,000 to various local groups and causes. Some of the recipients included Norfolk Elementary Schools, King Philip Junior and Senior High Schools, Council on Aging, Norfolk Police and Fire Departments, college scholarships, Norfolk Library, Norfolk Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCA and local Preschools.

As well as civic aspects, there are also several social groups within NCL. These include babysitting coops, gourmet cooking clubs, and book groups. Membership in these groups is limited to NCL members.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of NCL is asked to contact the 1st Vice-President of Membership, Liz Hathaway at 541-1488. Information about NCL as well as membership forms can also be obtained from our website at www.norfolkcommunityleague.org.
