Friends of the Norfolk Library 2004 Annual Membership Drive

The Friends of the Norfolk Library is currently holding their annual membership drive. They invite you to join them in support of the Norfolk Public library by becoming a member of the Friends. In addition to supporting library programs, the Friends use funds to supplement the library budget to pay for items such as computer equipment, copying equipment, carpeting, and furniture reupholstering. This year the Friends gave $5,000 to the library to start a new DVD collection. They have also continued to add to a ``Furniture Fund'' which will be used to purchase furnishings and other items when the library expansion project is complete. Currently there is $69,000 in this fund and the goal is to be able to provide $75,000 to the library trustees as the work approaches completion.

For over thirty years the Friends have been dedicated to their mission: ``support the Norfolk Library by making the residents of Norfolk more aware of the library, its services and potentialities, and by encouraging public opinion in favor of a strong and active public library in the Town of Norfolk.''

While the membership drive is the Friends major fundraiser, they also hold other events to raise money to support several library programs and projects. The most popular fund raising event is the Annual Book and Bake Sale held in September. This event has continually been a success and is anticipated by book lovers of all ages. This year they also sponsored another book sale in June and a puppet sale in December.

Please join the Friends of the Norfolk Library. The membership levels are: Senior Friend, $5; Friend, $15; Best Friend $25, Jeanne D. Hill Friend $50/$75/$100 or more. Please send a check to the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library, 139 Main Street, Norfolk, MA 02056 or stop by the library for more information. We also invite you to become an active participant in Friends. There are many opportunities to help and the Friends welcome your help at any level.
